Phoenix Point Linux DXVK Wine

Phoenix Point Linux DXVK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.

An unusual virus discovered in melting permafrost excites the scientific community. It has a massive genome, and only 1% of its genes match anything in existing databases.

“What the hell is going on with the other genes?” asks researcher Jean-Michel Moreau. “This opens a Pandora’s box. What kinds of discoveries are going to come from studying the contents?”

Later in the decade, the seas transform into something totally alien. Then the mutagens begin to invade the land via an airborne microbial mist.

Phoenix Point Linux DXVK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.

Phoenix Point is a Unity3D game which is a cross-platform engine but the title didn’t released for Linux. At the begining the devs claimed there will be Linux support but later they explained in a blog post why they withdraw support for Linux.

The reasons are funny and not serious enough. In first place they could use Vulkan and not DirectX, they could support only one distro like Ubuntu for example, Linux drivers are on par with Windows, etc. I think the main reason is Epic Game store. There aren’t a single Linux title on EGS for the time being. Anyway…

Fortunately enough you can still play Phoenix Point on Linux in a relatively easy manner. For this game you’ll need Wine or Wine-Staging (the game will crash after the mission loading menu with the current Proton version), DXVK and Windows Media Foundation a.k.a mfplat. Let’s start!

DXVK isntallation is easy with our understandable tutorial here. Often Wine and DXVK are enough for the games to run, however, in this case the game will start but there will be a black screen after the loading screen to the main menu. To fix this, we need to install Windows Media Foundation.

You can install mfplat very easy with z0z0z’s script. Yоu’ll hаvе tо dоwnlоаd thе аrсhіvе with the script and the needed files frоm GіtНub, ехtrасt іt, ехроrt Wіnе рrеfіх раth, аnd run thе іnѕtаll ѕсrірt:

  • Export your Wine prefix path:
export WINEPREFIX="/path/to/your/wine/prefix"
  • Start the install script:
./install-mf.sh

Now the game will run fine but there will be some missing text in the menus and UI. This will be fixed with corefonts installation. It’s easy as:

winetricks -q corefonts

You can also use ESync for a performance boost.

And we are ready! Now you can play Phoenix Point on Linux too!
