Grand Theft Auto IV Linux D9VK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.
What does the American dream mean today?
For Niko Bellic fresh off the boat from Europe, it is the hope he can escape from his past. For his cousin, Roman, it is the vision that together they can find fortune in Liberty City, gateway to the land of opportunity. As they slip into debt and get dragged into a criminal underworld by a series of shysters, thieves and sociopaths, they discover that the reality is very different from the dream in a city that worships money and status, and is heaven for those who have them and a living nightmare for those who don’t.
Grand Theft Auto IV Linux D9VK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.
Grand Theft Auto IV is a Windows game only but you can play on Linux too. The game performs better than on Windows so you are in luck!
For this game you’ll need Wine or Wine-Staging, D9VK, and a Xlive patch to circumvent Games for Windows Live.
For D9VK you may look at our D9VK installation guide which makes life easier.
Now you’ll have to download a patched xlive.dll library to circumverent GFWL problems. You can download the library from GitHub. Copy and place it in the game’s root directory near to the game’s .exe file.
If your video card has 2GB or more of VRAM, you need to launch the game with the following keys in order to remove the resource constraint and allow you to change your graphics settings:
-norestrictions -nomemrestrict -percentvidmem 100
Keep in mind you’ll still see the red text and the warning message on the Graphics setting screen but it’s harmless.
If want some FPS boost, you can also try ESync.
All done! Now you can play Grand Theft Auto IV on Linux!
- Wine version used in the video – Wine-Staging 4.12.1 with ESync enabled.
- D9VK version: 0.13f
- NVIDIA driver: 430.34
