Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) is a free-to-play digital battlefield game and simulation environment. Our dream is to offer the most authentic and realistic simulation of military aircraft, tanks, ground vehicles and ships possible. This free download includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region and Black Sea that encompasses much of Georgia. It also includes a flyable Russian Sukhoi Su-25T ground attack aircraft and the famous WWII North American TF-51D fighter. An additional 25 aircraft are available for purchase.

DCS World is a realistic military aircraft simulator with exciting graphics, challenging missions and relaxing free flight missions. DCS is a true „sandbox“ simulation that is also designed to cover multiple time periods of interest such as WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War and others.

Unlike Xplane 11, another aircraft simulator, but aimed at civil aviation, which has a Linux version, DCS World doesn’t offer one. The game now is using DirectX 11 and it’s still playable on Linux. However, the developers are considering releasing a Vulkan renderer version, which can be a step towards a Linux port, or if one is not released, it will lead to a higher performance under Linux. For now we’ll play it with DirectX 11. Let see how to do that.

For this game you’ll need Wine, DXVK and some Windows components like d3dcompiler_43, xact, vcrun2017 and corefonts.

Installing DXVK is easy but if you don’t know how, don’t be afraid – just follow our easy tutorial.

Now it’s time to install the Windows components. We can install them all together via terminal. Open it and just copy an paste the following:

winetricks d3dcompiler_43 xact vcrun2017 corefonts

You can also install them via Winetricks GUI.

If you have problems with crackling sound, you can fix it with:

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=10

in terminal before you launch the game or put this line in a start script.

You can also use ESync for an additional FPS boost.

And that’s it! You can now play DCS World on Linux too!
