Halo: The Master Chief Collection – Halo 3 Linux DXVK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.
Halo 3 comes to PC as the next installment in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Now optimized for PC, witness the Master Chief’s return to finish the fight between the Covenant, the Flood, and the entire Human race in this dramatic, pulse-pounding conclusion of the original Halo trilogy. With the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance, the Master Chief returns to uncover an ancient secret hidden beneath the sands of Africa, which could hold the key to humanity’s salvation or destruction – an object that could change the tide of the Human-Covenant conflict.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection – Halo 3 is an Unreal Engine 4 game from Xbox Game Studios and, of course, they will never release the game for Linux or at least not in the near future. Fortunately, the game is working fine on Linux and we’ll show you how. Let’s start!
This game requires only Wine/Proton and DXVK. Keep in mind you’ll have to use Wine 5.5 or older for the game will not run with newer versions because of a regression.
If you don’t hear about DXVK and don’t know how to setup it, you can follow our DXVK installation tutorial.
If you are using Steam with Proton and have no sound in cutscenes, you’ll have to set the Windows version from Windows 10 to Windows 7:
protontricks 976730 --gui
You can also use ESync for a FPS boost.
And that’s all! Now you can play Halo: The Master Chief Collection – Halo 3 on Linux too!
- Wine version used in the video: Wine 5.5 with ESync enabled.
- DXVK version: 1.7
