The Outer Worlds is an Unreal Engine 4 game which is cross-platform engine but despite of that fact the developers of the game didn’t release it for Linux. However, the game runs pretty well on Linux and we’ll show you how to setup it.
For this game you’ll need nothing more than Wine or Wine-Staging, DXVK and Windows Media Foundation libraries also known as mfplat.
For DXVK installation you may look at our very helpful installation guide here. With DXVK installed the game will now run but some movies and cutscenes will not work. In order to fix that you’ll need mfplat.
Installing mfplat and setting all the reg files and libraries is very tough task. Fortunately enough you can set it in a blink of an eye with z0z0z’s script. Yоu’ll hаvе tо dоwnlоаd thе аrсhіvе with the script and the needed files frоm GіtНub, ехtrасt іt, ехроrt Wіnе рrеfіх раth, аnd run thе іnѕtаll ѕсrірt:
- Export your Wine prefix path:
export WINEPREFIX="/path/to/your/wine/prefix"
- And start the install script:
./install-mf.sh
You can also use ESync for a performance boost.
