Mafia 3 Linux DXVK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.
It’s 1968 and after years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now back home in New Bordeaux, Lincoln is set on escaping a criminal past. But when his surrogate family, the black mob, is betrayed and wiped out by the Italian Mafia, Lincoln builds a new family on the ashes of the old and blazes a path of military-grade revenge through those responsible.
Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white knuckle driving and street smarts will all be needed. But with the right crew, tough decisions and some dirty hands, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city’s underworld.
Mafia 3 Linux DXVK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.
Mafia 3 is a Windows game without dedicated Linux version. You can still play it on Linux but with some tweaking. Don’t be afraid though, we’ll show you how!
You’ll need Wine or Wine-Staging, DXVK, and resolution setting in a config file.
For DXVK installation you may refer to our step-by-step guide. With DXVK installed the game should run but it’ll freeze at the splash screen.
To fix this, go to /game/prefix/drive_c/users/your_user/Local Settings/Application Data/2K Games/Mafia III/Saves/ and open the videoconfig.cfg file. Copy and paste here the following:
0 0 1920 1080 0 0 0 0
If you want to play at other resolution, just edit the values accordingly. For example, if you wish to play the game at 1600×1200, you’ll have to edit them like this:
0 0 1600 1200 0 0 0 0
The game will change this file at start and exit so you’ll have to set a read only flag from the file’s properties menu or from terminal:
chmod 444 videoconfig.cfg
Now you can play the game but it will be in a windowed mode. You can switch to fullscreen with Alt+Enter at any time.
Keep in mind in fullscreen mode the game will freeze at some cut scenes so you can play it in windowed mode or switch to windowed mode just before the problematic cut scene.
One more thing – the game has problems with ESync and it works very slow with it so you shoud not use ESync.
