Mafia 2 Linux Wine D9VK – how to play this game on Linux.
Mafia II uses 2K Czech’s proprietary Illusion Engine which isn’t available for Linux. However, you can play this game without any problems via Wine and some other components. If you wonder how to do it, read on. Lets begin!
For this game you’ll need Wine or Wine-Staging, DirectX 9, D9VK, and NVIDIA PhysX.
Mafia 2 will run fine with Wine only but you’ll get a better performance with D9VK. If you don’t know how to install it, you can follow our understandable D9VK installation guide.
For DirectX 9 installation you have two choices:
- Install Wine DirectX 9 impementation (d3dx9) via winetricks:
winetricks d3dx9
- Install DirectX 9 via Microsoft’s official installer:
You’ll have to download Microsoft’s official installer and run it with double click just like in Windows. Follow the installer’s steps.
NVIDIA PhysX installation is easy as:
winetricks -q physx
If you want a smoother gameplay, you can also try ESync.
