Anno 1800 Linux DXVK Wine – how to play this game on Linux.
As an Ubisoft game, Anno 1800 isn’t officialy available on Linux. Fortunately you can play it without problems and with a decent performance.
You’ll need Wine-Staging, DXVK, DirectX 9, Windows core fonts, and an environment variable. Let’s start!
If you don’t know how to install DXVK, you can follow our very easy DXVK installation tutorial. Keep in mind you’ll need the latest master or wait for version newer than 1.3.1 or you’ll experience graphical glitches.
For DirectX 9 installation you have two paths to choose from:
- Install Wine d3dx9 implementation via winetricks:
winetricks d3dx9
- Install DirectX 9 via Microsoft’s official installer:
You’ll have to download Microsoft’s official installer and run it with double click just like in Windows. Follow the installer’s steps.
With DX9 installed, our next step is to install Windows core fonts which are needed for the Uplay Launcher. Just issue the following command:
winetricks -q corefonts
It’s ready! Now you can enjoy Anno 1800 on Linux!
Note:
If you have problems starting the game, you can try to set the environment variable for Python UTF-8 – PYTHONIOENCODING=utf-8. All you have to do is to copy and paste in terminal this:
export PYTHONIOENCODING=utf-8
Now the game should run!
