There is a lot of hype around the new game title The Surge 2 but unfortunately the game developers didn’t release it for Linux despite the fact the game uses Vulkan which is cross-platform. But fear not – you can play it on Linux very easy and with a good performance.
All you need for this game is only Proton 4.11-6 or newer. If you use Steam just use Steam Play and and the game will run out-of-the-box.
To activate Steam Play, open the Steam client, login into your Steam account, in the upper left corner select Steam->Settings and you’ll see the option Steam Play in the left. There are two options – Enable Steam Play for supported titles or Enable Steam Play for all titles. You should choose the second option as it allows you to play all Windows games without limitation no matter if they are whitelisted or not.
In other cases you can use Kron4ek‘s precompiled Proton build. Then you can start the game like this:
/path/to/proton/wine/bin/wine "path/to/the/game/TheSurge2.exe
And that’s all! Now you can play The Surge 2 on Linux!
