The Trine series returns to the magic of 2.5D with Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince! The three heroes of the best-selling adventure series are back, sent on a quest to retrieve the troubled young Prince Selius. Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief are joined together once again on a thrilling quest through fantastical fairytale landscapes teeming with danger.
Prince Selius suffers from intensely dark dreams and, due to his magical talents, monstrous nightmares are able to slip into reality and wreak havoc on the waking world. Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya must find the afflicted prince and resolve the desperate situation before the world is engulfed by the Nightmare Prince’s shadows.

Running non-native games on Linux gets easier every day and Trine 4 proves it. The game runs out-of-the-box and you’ll need only Wine and DXVK.
If you don’t know how to install DXVK, you may follow our super easy tutorial here. You can also use ESync for an performance boost but keep in mind the game runs with 30 FPS no matter the settings.
Update:
Regarding the 30 FPS limit – open the file:
steamapps/compatdata/690640/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Trine4/options.txt
or
prefix/drive_c/users/your_user/Application Data/Trine4/options.txt
Find the line:
setOption(renderingModule, "OnBatteryFramerateLimit", 30)
Change 30 to a higher value like 200, 300 or so. Done!
And that’s it! Now you can play Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince on Linux!
